This would make a great gift for a teacher or anyone looking to increase their vocabulary. Each day you rip off the old page revealing a new word. I love that it also gives you the pronunciation in addition to the definition. The pages are sturdy and don’t rip when you change the day. The calendar stands on its own and is a compact size, perfect for a desk.
Here's a good New Year resolution: boost your vocabulary. This desk calendar will do just that. These are not arcane words but ones you will most likely want to use in conversation. You get the word, how to pronounce it, and a succinct definition. Then a bonus: on the reverse side of the day's word is a lined note. I'm forever writing notes to myself, reminders of things to do, and this it the perfect size. You can place this calendar on your desk or hang it on the wall. The print is easy to read and the pages are striking without being ostentatious. You don't get shortchanged on the weekend as with many calendars; you get separate pages for Saturday and Sunday. This is a handy and practical way to increase your vocabulary.
This is a good size to keep on your desk at work. The stand works really well to hold it up, and I like that each one is a small lined piece of paper to use for notes when the day is done. It also has perforations along the top so as you use them and rip them off each day, you're not left with that huge chunk on the top. The only thing I noticed is that some of the words are more "contemporary" slang words, not actual useful vocabulary - unless you're trying to understand the younger generations. Actually, I guess that makes it more useful than I thought!
The words span quite a bit from more common (troll) to more rare (hiraeth). The backside of each page has lines for notes, I love re-using the torn off pages for jotting things down at work. This is a smaller sized 4x4 calendar that won't take up a lot of space, but the font colorings and size are an awkward choice, the date print is smaller at the top and in the orange color, so it's not easy to read at a glance, they should have made the date way more prominent.
A colleague of mine had a calendar like this, but not as cool as this years ago. I always like to learn new words, so I thought this would be fun to have. His calendar was White, and I completely missed the fact this one was Black, and I was thrilled when I realized it . It makes it unique. Mind you, if you want to write on the front of the page, you better have light colored gel pens or something that can. But no worries the backside is lined and white for notes.Holidays are indicated in a bright colored background above the word of the day.The holidays included are:**** New Year’s Day**** Martin Luther King’s Day**** Groundhog Day**** Lincoln’s Birthday**** Valentine’s Day**** President’s Day**** Day Light Savings (Start)**** St. Patrick’s Day**** April Fool’s Day**** Good Friday**** Easter Sunday**** Easter Monday**** Earth Day**** Cinco de Mayo**** Mother’s Day**** Memorial Day**** Flag Day**** Juneteenth**** Father’s Day**** Independence Day**** Labor Day**** Columbus Day**** Halloween**** Day Light Savings (End)**** Veteran’s Day**** Thanksgiving**** Christmas Eve**** Christmas Day**** New Year’s Eve
